• To Post Or Not To Post?

I go back and forth about which topics to post and which to not post. I know I’m not alone. First, let me say that I am encouraged that conversations are now happening publicly and openly between believers and non-believers about faith in Jesus. To fathom this moment years ago was next to impossible for many of those who have gone before us. Now, it’s almost unimaginable not to be able to freely express our belief through many mediums that have given us voice and courage to say what we probably couldn’t put into words in times before. We have the mass of resources available to us at our finger…

  • A Priest Forever

Hebrews 5 Highlight Verses: 5, 8, 9, 12, 13-14 NOTES: This chapter starts off address the acknowledgement of the title “high priest” and what kind of obligations and requirements came with the title. Specifically speaking of man’s role as High Priest. This position came with the following conditions: He is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God He offers gifts and sacrifices for sins He deals gently with the ignorant and wayward (he himself is beset with weakness) Because of his weakness, he offers sacrifice for his own sins as he does for others He is called by God to take this honor as high priest…

  • The Promise Of Rest

Hebrews 4 Highlight Verses: 2, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16 NOTES: THEREFORE – always means “in light of” and is usually calling the reader to recall the aforementioned. On the condition that the promise remains (verse 1 confirms that it does), we are urged to fear (be afraid to distrust it), pushing us to make a decision for salvation in fear and with knowledge. This will prevent us from thinking it’s too late and we’ve come short of it. How do we know we’ve confidently obtain the promise of rest? What proof do we have that we can receive this promise of rest with satisfactory assurance. The Gospel was preached…

  • Be Faithful

Hebrews 3 Highlight Verses: 3, 6, 12-13, 18-19 Chapter 3 continues with the theme of bringing light to the Son; specifically His faithfulness to the Father. Verse 1 – “Partakers” is the same Greek word that is translated companions. This reference to those who are “of the heavenly calling” gives significance to the word “brethren”. It gives us a clear meaning and better understanding of our relationship with God and Jesus. This verse also brings us in (invites us) to consider the faithfulness of Jesus; specifically as it compares to the faithfulness of Moses. Recall that Moses is the giver of the Law. Many teachers of the Law make reference…

  • Warning Against Neglecting Salvation

Hebrews 2 Highlight Verses: 1, 8, 11, 14, 17-18 This chapter starts strong with a statement of warning and encouragement for the believers Paul is addressing. The warnings and exhortations in Hebrews 2:1-4 give us the very things we need to continue strong in faith. Verse 1 starts with two strong consequences that will follow hearing the Gospel: either we’ll “take heed” or we’ll “drift away”. Take heed – to listen and follow, implying whatever comes before will determine which result will ensue. Take heed to what? Take heed to the message that verses 2-4 describe. What message? – Spoken through angels – Was proven to be steadfast – Justly…
